This is a game that relies on the player to play it nonstop or else they delete the account. I contacted customer support, there was nothing they could do for me. I had to go to the hospital at one point. Well, for one, the game purges any account that is inactive for 1 (one) month. So why am I recommending against the game and saying you should not buy it? I originally bought this game and a lot of DLC and a few in game purchased for it. This game is incredibly well made and incredibly fun. Perhaps if this was about 10 years ago, you'd be in for a treat. It's free, so there's no harm in trying it, but personally, this is a title to stay away from. Unfortunately, the current state of the game is just not enjoyable, nor has been for the last few years, which is a shame as this is a game I truly loved and had literal thousands of hours in. Generally speaking, DFO is a game that has many cool ideas, and things I'd LOVE to see done as well as it (or at least as well as they used to be), and was in my opinion, probably the most enjoyable blend of RPG and beat-em-up around. Stamina on its own isn't particularly an issue at endgame, again due to the time-gating existing on top of it. This is further exacerbated by the game being designed around having multiple alts, including a stamina system on top of your standard MMO time-gating that prevents playing a single character for too long. All things I wouldn't care about if there was actually a game to play outside of the raid content at endgame, which again, used to not be an issue. The game has the standard battle-pass fare, constant items to buy in the shops, and continuously aggressive powercreep.
Many classes feel overly similar due to this behavior when that wasn't the case previously, and the game feels like much more of a giant number simulator than a beat-em-up. Most classes in the game have become increasingly homogenized as well, with most of the releases in the time since Neople began hosting it themselves just having an arsenal of screenwide nukes, and many of the more unique mechanics and skills of older classes often being phased out and replaced with. However, if you haven't played the game to know that it does get better, I envision the average player simply quitting long before then, but then the majority of the endgame content revolves around raids. If you're bored enough to sit through the leveling process, you do finally somewhat feel like you're playing a beat-em-up rather than a mobile game that can be played with one hand once you get closer to the later caps (I'd say around 90+). Many encounters that are hyped up in the story are literal jokes and completely undermines the plot as well as the player's time. This is made more annoying due to knowing how many of these bosses functioned prior to this. The current new player (or rather I should say new character) experience is depressingly boring, with most of the leveling process involving going through dungeons in which every single monster (including the bosses) can be killed with a single skill.
I quit about a year and a half ago, but decided I should go ahead and download it via Steam (which can't be linked to existing accounts) for a quick romp through on a new account.ĭFO used to be a game I wholeheartedly enjoyed and would sink hours into, but it doesn't feel the same anymore. I've played DFO off and on since Nexon's initial release, till its shutdown, to the rerelease via Neople directly.
